BBU
What is BBU? BBU- Battery Backup Unit is installed inside your house or garage. Unlike your old phone equipment, the new Fiber equipment relies on commercial power at your house. That means if you loose power in the house, you will loose all Fiber services. The Fios folks came up with a BBU unit which will provide power to your phone in the event of a power outage. DVR
What is a DVR? DVR Is short for A Digital Video Recorder. A DVR lets you pause, rewind and record live programming, and gives you more control over when you use your FiOS TV service.

FDH
What is FDH? FDH is short for Fiber Distribution Hub. You can see these boxes around the Neighborhood. Normally Green or Grey in color they act as mega Splitters for fiber signals. Unlike the old boxes they work a little different. Read our Articles on How Fios Works.

FTTP
What is FTTP? FTTP is short for Fiber To The Premises. See loong long time ago in a far away galaxy, some smelly old men sat down in a room filled with smoke and decided time had come for the ordinary man to experience the power of broadband. This service would be delivered over Fiber to the common mans home. The ugliest one of them all jumped up and said, wait a minute. That is Fiber to the Premises! In the opposite corner, the handsome guy turned to him and calmly said, No, I believe that is FTTP.

MTU
MTU (Maximum Transmission Units) - The MTU defines the largest single unit of data that can be transmitted over your connection. The FiOS network requires an MTU of 1492 bytes.

NIC

NID
What is a NID? NID is short for Network Interface Device. These are the old Phone Boxes that you have seen outside your residences for decades now. They are primarily used to terminate copper wire from the Central office. With the introduction of Fiber (Fios), they are being replaced by ONTs.

OLT
What is OLT? OLT is short for Optical Line Terminal. It is located at Verizons Central Office. It replaces what used to be the Circuit Switch for POTS(Plain Old Telephone System. It send signals to the WMD before they are dispatched to your house via Fiber cable.

ONT
What is ONT? ONT-short for Optical Network Terminal is the Box installed on the outside of the house by Verizon. Also known as a TNI-Telephone Network Interface. This box replaces the one you have seen out there for years called a NID-Network Interface Device. PEG
What is PEG? PEG is short for Public Education Government. Just as the name suggests, this is programming available on Fios TV but generated by your Local Government, are Educational or what is popularly known as Public television.
