What is Connection Speed?

Connection Speed is the speed of the connection in bps (bits per second) that determines the rate information can be transferred from the Internet to a particular computer. This depends on the type of connection, ie modem, cable, DSL, Fios, etc.

It is measured by the number of units, or bits, of information transferred in a second. Bits per second is abbreviated bps; a thousand bits per second is abbreviated Kbps; and a million bits per second is abbreviated MBps. For example, a 14.4k modem with a connection speed of 14.4 Kbps is much slower than a Cable or DSL�modem with a connection speed of 1 MBps. And all the above are much more slower than even the slowest the Fios connection speed
